PROMPT is an acronym for "Prompts for Restructuring Oral-Muscular Phonetic Targets". It is a tactile-kinesthetic approach that involves touch cues to the individual’s articulators (jaw, tongue, lips) to manually guide them through the targeted word, phrase or sentence.
This technique includes developing a communication focus in which to embed and focus communication intervention and using vocal modeling and manual manipulation to achieve purposeful vocalizations. It stresses motor control and precision of oral muscle movements. PROMPT has been developed as a treatment for speech production disorders in both children and adults based on accepted neuromotor principles of speech production.
